The basic Heart-Smile Training Retreat is an intensive practice session lasting three days
and two nights. Practice sessions are held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. the first day, from 4 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
the second day, and from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. the last day.
With the main Heart-Smile Training as a core practice, the program includes Heart-Smile Gratitude
and Acceptance Meditation, Heart-Smile Movement 33, Heart-Smile Body Scan, Sound Meditation,
Dharma talks and Interviews. All practices taught at the retreat are designed to arouse feelings of
loving-kindness within the body and mind and allow one to more fully experience genuine loving-kindness.
First, participants put their body and mind at ease then relax by practicing Heart-Smile Gratitude and
Acceptance, Heart-Smile Movement 33, Heart-Smile Body Scan. Afterwards they will use Sound Meditation to
stimulate a sense of connection and oneness with others and the universe through the vibration and
resonance of certain sounds.
Subsequently they will practice the main Heart-Smile Training. This main training evokes kind and warm
feelings through a gentle smile. By concentrating these feelings in the chest, we spread and fill the whole
body with these feelings. These feelings of abundance in body and mind can lead us to experience wholeness
in the here and now.
In essence, the Three-Day HST Retreat aims to purify body and mind and to unlock the loving-kindness deep
within to let it flow ceaselessly. Through this we activate the loving-kindness and compassion inherent within
and experience awakening based on our concentration on these qualities. Heart-Smile Training helps us
experience and realize our true nature, which is peaceful and tranquil as it is.
